Cosas dando vuelta en mi cabeza

Traigo algunas cosas que no me dejan de dar vueltas en la cabeza:

1. Una alumna se acerco a mi al final de la clase y me pregunto si las faltas iban a contar, yo respondí que sí y ella me dice "lo que pasa es que voy a tener que faltar a algunas clases por que voy a estar en tratamiento médico" a lo que contesté "bueno en ese caso no te cuento las faltas" y ella sigue "lo que pasa es que el año pasado me operaron de cáncer y me detectaron algunos cuerpos y voy a estar en terapia con iridio". Mencionó también que no quiere dejar de estudiar, entre otras cosas.
2. El ser querido de un ser querido victima de la violencia en México.
3. La porquería de inseguridad que estamos viviendo en México.
4. El toque de queda que nos hemos auto impuesto muchos
5. ¿Soy un buen papá?
6. PhD
7. Aproximadamente 15 libros que aún no termino de leer
8. 4 artículos en progreso
9. ¿Soy un buen marido, amante, novio, amigo, compañero, ayudante, etc. con el mio amore?

Mapa sobre corrupción en el mundo. Pura percepción, así que tal vez (muy probablemente) la cosa este peor.

Mapas de delito en México

En el sitio de Animal Político muestran 5 mapas dinámicos, uno por tipo de delito: Tasa de homicidios total, Tasa de homicidios con arma de fuego, Tasa de secuestros, Tasa de robos total, Tasa de robos con violencia, para cada una de las entidades de México a lo largo de 13 años. En el caso particular de Nuevo León, se ve claramente el crecimiento en los últimos meses (menos marcado para el caso de robos). Estos mapas fueron realizados con datos que finalmente librero el "Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública" (que nombrecito tan rimbombante por cierto). Bueno, pues solo otra forma de ver lo que vivimos a diario.

Antimatter trapped at CERN

"The ALPHA experiment at CERN has taken an important step forward in developing techniques to understand one of the Universe’s open questions: is there a difference between matter and antimatter? In a paper published in Nature today, the collaboration shows that it has successfully produced and trapped atoms of antihydrogen. This development opens the path to new ways of making detailed measurements of antihydrogen, which will in turn allow scientists to compare matter and antimatter.

Antimatter – or the lack of it – remains one of the biggest mysteries of science. Matter and its counterpart are identical except for opposite charge, and they annihilate when they meet. At the Big Bang, matter and antimatter should have been produced in equal amounts. However, we know that our world is made up of matter: antimatter seems to have disappeared. To find out what has happened to it, scientists employ a range of methods to investigate whether a tiny difference in the properties of matter and antimatter could point towards an explanation."

Prueba sobre impaciencia ¿califica como tortura?

Ayer unos de mis alumnos expusieron sobre economía y psicología (o economía del comportamiento). En la exposición usaron varios videos uno de los cuales es particularmente cómico aunque también puede calificar como cruel. Acá pongo el enlace para que lo vean. El final es muy ilustrativo sobre como algunos compensamos el aguante.

Incomplete, badly named, biased, but still interesting

Dan Ariely's list of "new economists". Unfortunately only Fehr is outside the USA and in the list. Of course the list is incomplete (fill the places as you please). Someone else should have a good list on this, just for the public to know there is more to economics than the current crisis and stuff like that.
